FedEx “In Transit” — what it actually means

The package is moving (or waiting to move) between FedEx facilities toward the destination. This status covers most of the journey — and hides all of the detail.

Why packages get stuck here

  • Hub congestion — Memphis and Indianapolis sort everything; one backup ripples nationwide
  • Weather holds on air routes
  • Trailer volume: ground packages wait for trucks with room

How long it usually lasts: 1–5 days for Ground, usually overnight-to-2-days for Express.

What to actually do

  • Normal for days at a time on Ground service
  • If it's been static 5+ days with no new scan, open a trace with FedEx
  • Screenshot the tracking history before you call — reps see the same data
