USPS “In Transit, Arriving Late” — what it actually means
USPS is telling you it missed the service standard. It's still moving — just slower than promised (and than paid for, for Priority).
Why packages get stuck here
- Missed processing cutoffs
- Weather or transportation disruption
- Volume triage — later packages get bumped for earlier ones
How long it usually lasts: Usually 1–3 days late, then delivery or "arrived at unit."
What to actually do
- It's not lost — it's deprioritized
- Priority Mail that arrives late may qualify for a refund of postage — sender files it
- Two weeks late: Missing Mail search time
